Family homes built for families by families.
J & J McCann (Holdings) Ltd is a construction company based in the former market town of Biggar. It is a privately owned family business – the family are now in their 54th year of trading.
The name McCann derives from 2 brothers (James and Joseph) who set up the business in 1919. John Lawrie Snr was an employee and took over the business in 1958 when the surviving brother passed away. The trading name of McCann was a well know, firmly established business and the decision was made to continue with it.
The company today is run by 2 brothers (John and William) along with John’s daughter Lorraine and James’s son James. James Snr retired in February 2012. William’s daughter Fiona oversees the day to day administration with Lorraine in the office. This all bodes well for the business going forward into the third generation of the family.
The company employs 20 local people varying from general construction labourers, joiners, bricklayers, plant operatives and have several young apprentices on their books.
